If there hadn't been that crazy party middle of nowhere in the backwoods of Czech Republic, I doubt I'd ever started performing as Mäkkelä in a band line up. I also doubt we would have played another two shows in that line up on my 2015 tour in the cities of Bayreuth and Prague. All three of us, Andy Conrad, Patrick Reichmann and me been to that remote Czech place before and were offered a gig there. Or rather decided we'd go there and play. Either way it worked out.
As most of the songs of my solo set are not really the stuff you'd want to play to a crazy, enthusiastic, drunk bunch of friendly lunatics we had to come up with a suitable set. Among other pretty wild, acoustic versions of obscure songs (there was even a J.M.K.E. song) Geoff Berner's "Whiskey Rabbi" seemed just the right one to pick.
Although this version was recorded in a slightly different line up, it just perfectly captures the mood of that first ever performance we did in the heat of a summer night in the south of Bohemia. Apart from that it's probably one of the reasons for the idea of recording the upcoming album in a steady band line up.

You'll find the original version of this song on Geoff Berner's 2005 album "Whiskey Rabbi" which I highly recommend. Just like any other of his releases.
