It's said this is originally a traditional Irish folk song, though, most likely better known in it's Americanized version which over the centuries made it's entry into the big pool of American trad folk tunes. Like the other tune of this 2-track release it's one of the songs I used to perform with a band called Lily Of The West (!) back in the early 1990s. A three-piece acoustic outfit you'd label as indie-folk today I suppose. In an obvious way it thus makes a lot of sense for me to have these two released as a pair. Inadvertently in the first place I picked the two songs for releasing them in this time of standstill due to the Corona pandemic. It's been only during the recording - and remixing process of "On The Floe" that I realized they've got a common feature in my personal musical background. Apart from that I simply love both songs a lot, even though it took some time to fall in love with Lily. Maybe not enough to have them on my next regular full-length release but just now it makes a lot of sense.
